DIY SHAMPOO + RINSE

Store-bought, all-natural shampoos and conditioners are expensive and don't always work. Cheaper shampoos and conditioners typically work well, but they're full of chemicals and leave a residue in the hair, even after rinsing.

THERE HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY!

Luckily, there is. And it includes 2 household ingredients + water.

I first heard of this 'recipe' from My Merry Messy Life blog. In her blog, Sara talk about how the transition from commercial hair products to this natural method can be a little daunting at first. Because baking soda doesn't strip the natural oils from the hair, the first few weeks may result in a slightly greasy head of hair.

Once you're scalp and hair become acclimated to the new conditions, all is well. I've been using this method for over a year now and I have no desire to switch back to commercial products.

Making these natural products couldn't be easier:

1 tbsp baking soda* + 1 cup water = wash

1 tbsp apple cider vinegar* + 1 cup water = rinse

* everyone's hair type is different, so playing around with these amounts may be useful. In general, thicker hair can take more soda and vinegar, while thinner hair can take less.

As mentioned above, the wash (or shampoo) doesn't remove natural oils from the hair, it just removes the grime and dirt. The rinse (or conditioner) also removed residue and closes the hair cuticles which results in smoother, less tangled hair.

Apple cider vinegar is also great for a dry scalp. I've heard stories of it successfully treating dandruff and I've experienced it's benefits on my scalp psoriasis.

You can even go a step further and add all-natural post-shower hair products into your routine. Britt Ricci from After Hours Radio shares her recipe for a Natural Beach Hair Spray. All that's needed for the hair spray is sea salt, coconut oil, hair gel and coconut scented oil. Check out the link for step-by-step instructions!

Why use expensive store-bought products when making all-natural products at home is just as easy, much cheaper, and a whole lot better for the body?

If you currently use natural products, share your success story! Or if you currently use store-bought products, give this method a try and let me know what you think!
