2023 TRAVEL WRAPPED

2023 TRAVEL WRAPPED

The other morning I made a journal entry looking back on 2023. I wrote something like “it was a pretty good year.” It was thoughtless and uninspired. So I decided to look back at pictures from the year in hopes of writing something less lame.

It worked. I was not only inspired, but frankly a little embarrassed that my initial recap of the year was so nonchalant and dull. Because in reality it was a really freaking awesome year. I worked less, traveled more, tried new things, ate and drank too much, met new friends, and got to see so many people that I love.

Here are a few travel highlights from my really freaking awesome year.

FEBRUARY | MENDOZA, ARGENTINA

My parents came to Argentina! We explored La Plata, ate a 12 course dinner, and saw a tango show in Buenos Aires. We also visited Mendoza, Argentina’s primary wine region, where we imbibed in the local supply.

MARCH | COSTA RICA

Blas and I spent a month in Costa Rica. The first part of the trip we visited Limón Province on the Caribbean coast. We saw sloths, ate ceviche, kayaked with turtles, hiked, and played in the ocean.

About halfway through the month, we met up with my sister, Jack, and the munchkins for some more fun in the sun. We celebrated Ollie’s 8th birthday with a tropical fruit fiesta, took a mud bath, nearly died on a rustic waterslide, drank fresh coconut and Imperial cervezas, visited the Monteverde cloud forest, and beach bummed.

JULY | WISCONSIN, USA

I took a trip back to Wisconsin to bask in the unbeatable midwest summer. I saw so many friends and drank even more bloody marys. We played corn hole (where Jen absolutely dominated), floated the Red Cedar river, got our crafting on, went to the Spooner rodeo, and took lots of pontoon cruises.

AUGUST | USHUAIA, ARGENTINA

Blas and I visited Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. We experienced the region’s biggest snow storm since 1995, shredded the gnar, and drank lots of local brews.

SEPTEMBER | COLONIA, URUGUAY

For my birthday we visited Colonia, Uruguay, a short ferry ride from Buenos Aires. We strolled around the picturesque town, rode bikes, and listened to lots of live music, including the sweetest little impromptu piano show through an old man’s window.

NOVEMBER | JUJUY, ARGENTINA

Nina and Caleb came to Argentina! We spent a few fun days in Buenos Aires, then to Jujuy, a province in the north of Argentina. We hiked in the red mountains, met llamas, danced with the locals, visited giant salt flats, and drank chilled vino tinto at a remote vineyard. Oh, and Blas and I got engaged. ❤️

2023, you were a pretty good year, indeed.

If all goes as planned, 2024 will be a just as full of fun and adventures. We’re going to spend three months in the US, including a cross-country road trip and wedding fiesta. Then we’ll head to Spain for 9+ months. We’re not sure where our next “home base” will be, but we’re hoping this year brings some clarity. In the meantime, I’m counting my blessings for the opportunities, flexibility, and people in my life.
