SEATTLE TOURISTS

SEATTLE TOURISTS

I’ve been to Seattle a fair number of times, 15-20 visits if I had to guess. I wouldn’t say I know the city like the back of my hand, but I wouldn’t consider myself a stranger either. This past weekend my mom and I took a trip to the Emerald City and given the number of touristy activities we did, you would have thought it was our first time in the city. The whole shebang; Pike Place Market, Gum Wall, Space Needle, Fremont Troll…

That’s usually not the way I roll, but I have to admit it was fun. My mom and I met quite a few interesting characters on our adventures (shout out to our Lyft buddies, firemen friends, the guy who got chicken enchiladas at the bar, and Tim, my seatmate on the bus from Portland to Seattle). On the three-hour ride, Tim helped me figure out what camera I want to buy, recommended a killer kimchi recipe I can’t wait to try, and strongly suggested I take the Myers Briggs personality test (I’m an INFJ, if you’re curious).

After three hours of continuous convo, I was ready to eat when we rolled into Seattle. I met my mom in China Town and we headed to The Noodle House. I got a spicy, noodle soup with pickled cabbage and mushrooms and my mom got a rice hot pot with chicken and egg. They were both good, but nothing to write home about.

After our bellies were full we embarked on our extremely touristy adventure.

Space Needle!

Queen Anne Beer Hall!

Pike Place Market!

Gum Wall!

That night we ventured out to Capitol Hill for drinks and unexpected dancing. Sunday morning was a little rough seeing as we were out until 3am with our newfound friends. So, priority #1 was a bloody mary. I don’t know if the severity of my hangover played a part, but this was maybe the best bloody mary I’d ever had. It was light and refreshing with the perfect amount of spice and acid. Hangover cured. Thanks, Eve Fremont

Our last touristy stop was the Fremont Troll. It’s something I’ve always wanted to see and was happy to check it off my list.

When 3:30 rolled around it was time to head to the bus back to Portland for me, and the ferry back to Gig Harbor for my mom. We hopped in a Lyft with the nuttiest/most drugged out driver I’ve ever seen. A funny, bizarre ending to a great Seattle getaway.
